Joint Grant Opportunities
Faculty and staff collaborate with industrial partners and other organizations, such as federal agencies, nonprofits, national labs and others, through joint grant proposals. With research expenditures of over $650 million each year, UT is highly successful in securing federal funding. UT can either serve as a prime or sub-contractor on grant applications. If your company would like to team together for a grant opportunity, please reach out to the Research Relations team at least six weeks prior to the application deadline.
Sponsored Research
Each year, UT executes over 1,000 agreements for sponsored research projects with companies and university faculty. Our Office of Industry Engagement (OIE) assists your company in the contractual process, including execution of NDAs, MTAs and Sponsored Research Agreements (SRAs). Contract Templates can be found on OIE’s website. Under an SRA, a statement of work, budget, milestones, IP terms and publication rights are all defined. The Research Relations team will work with you and the faculty member to define the project, and then your legal team will work with OIE to execute the required agreements.
Technology Transfer
In the past 10 years, UT faculty and staff have produced more than 1,700 invention disclosures, resulting in more than 1,200 issued U.S. and international patents and 720 option and license agreements. Our Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) works with companies to identify intellectual property available for license to meet your specific needs. If your company would like to further develop or test the technology prior to license, you can also enter into a Technology Validation Agreement (TVA.) A TVA is a project, similar to an SRA, to prove performance, develop additional data, or validate the technology under a license option. Search for technology available for license »
